Sticky notes were on my mind for these two shows. Reflecting on the many notes and ideas I leave for myself in all of my spaces. Little big reminders. Look at the simplicity of these pieces but think on them a little deeper and what these notes many mean to you.

THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER:

“This exhibition title refers to the expression that is attached to the hottest days of summer, when the sun occupies the same space of the sky as the star Sirius (aka the dog star), but also to what it's more commonly used for as an expression: a time of stagnation. The pieces in the show are comprised of a few things we have shown during the pandemic that haven't been seen by many in person, as well as pieces that were created during this period of time that are being shown by us for the first time. This exhibition isn't specifically themed, but each artist chose their pieces to speak to the title of the show in their own ways. “

SKATE 2022

Something new for 2022 at Mirus Gallery in San Francisco. This large group show features the skateboard creations of Wonderland SF’s art community. My piece, inspired by the awe and wonder I’ve always had for the skate skills of my friends features Singleton in three modes of “Whoa”. See the works of 140 Artists in person at this unique exhibit. "THE BRIGHT SIDE" at WOW X WOW GALLERY

"The Bright Side" is a snapshot inspired by the first impression I had when I came upon Matilija Poppies while on a walk through the San Francisco streets. As I was passing by the long bouncing stalks I was sure I had just seen a gorgeous "fried egg flower". I have these pareidolia moments often and they serve as inspiration for many of my art scenes; always preferring to realize my imaginary scene over the actual.

The de Young Museum Exhibit shows "Stealthy Resplendence"

Mid year, the de Young Museum held an open call receiving over 11,500 art submissions and choosing only 877 pieces to showcase. Imagine my glee when it was announced that my new piece, Stealthy Resplendence, was one of the chosen pieces to be in a de Young Museum exhibit this year by a jury of museum curators and renowned artists!

The museum is now open and The de Young Open Exhibit opening is Saturday, October 10th and can be viewed with general admission through January 3rd, 2021. I hope you will take the opportunity to experience this unique exhibit of Bay Area Artists. Most of the artwork in the exhibit is available for purchase, including my piece, and will be live for purchase on the day of the opening. You may preview all of the works online, in advance of the opening and read more about the exhibit.

Here is my statement when asked “What inspired this piece?”:

“Isolation in a studio allows for an ample flow of creative thought. That is, until the ineludible appearance of the studio fly; darting about and commanding attention every moment it landed at rest and seemingly to study me. It was persistent, consistent, and impossible to ignore. During those moments of rest I studied the way the light glistened from the brilliant iridescence of it’s thorax. Thus, I found the largest canvas I had in my possession and rendered the likeness of this ordinary turned extraordinary creature in the glorified and larger than life state depicted in this series.”

These images remained in the sketchbook of my mind for many months before finally creating them for the “Ride The Sunrise” exhibit. They were inspired from a pareidolia moment I had with one of my other paintings as I was creating it. Many times, if I stare at another one of my pieces, more images are born.
