FourSquared at Arc Gallery -

This Spring, I spent a lot of time in and around San Francisco taking notice of gorgeous flowering plants. Any flower that gave me pause on my walks in search of my daily dose of awe and wonder. Flower Trip is my newest collection of these moments exhibited in 16 new works of art capturing my curiosity for these natural wonders. This special collection will be available at Arc Gallery and Studios popular annual FourSquared exhibit. Spring Open Studios

Visit J L King in her new creative space at Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco. Spring Open Studios is an annual event in the historic Hunters Point Artist community and a unique opportunity to visit artists in their studios. Learn about their creative processes, peruse the artwork, and purchase new pieces to add to your collection from King and over 100 artists in their studios.

Sticky notes were on my mind for these two shows. Reflecting on the many notes and ideas I leave for myself in all of my spaces. Little big reminders. Look at the simplicity of these pieces but think on them a little deeper and what these notes many mean to you.

THE DE YOUNG OPEN

Join me for the second triennial de Young Open exhibition at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. This year 7,766 artists submitted work for a chance to show on the de Young Museum walls. Highly esteemed museum curators and artists selected the artworks from 883 Bay Area residents. My piece, Behind the Seen, is one of the selected pieces this year.

I have admired the exhibits at the de Young for years and I am deeply honored to show my work there for this coveted opportunity. Come and celebrate the creativity of Bay Area artists for the Opening Day Celebration on Saturday, September 30 from 11 - 4pm. The de Young Open exhibit will run through January 7, 2024.

Most of the work in the exhibit will be available for sale with 100% of the proceeds going to the artists. Purchases will be handled by the individual artists. Please contact me if you are interested in adding “Behind The Seen” to your collection.

Svane Family Foundation "ARK" Auction - "Collective Blooms"

I’m excited to share that I have a piece in Ark, a special exhibition and auction presented by The Svane Family Foundation this September in San Francisco.

Commissioned at the height of the pandemic, the 100 works included represent the diversity and brilliance of Bay Area artists, reflect on this historic era, and share visions of what to carry into the future. All auction proceeds go back into the local arts community via Artspan.

You can schedule a viewing of the exhibition at SFAI Fort Mason where all 100 works are on display (masks + vaccination required) and start bidding online via Artsy on September 16th.

The de Young Museum Exhibit shows "Stealthy Resplendence"

Mid year, the de Young Museum held an open call receiving over 11,500 art submissions and choosing only 877 pieces to showcase. Imagine my glee when it was announced that my new piece, Stealthy Resplendence, was one of the chosen pieces to be in a de Young Museum exhibit this year by a jury of museum curators and renowned artists!

The museum is now open and The de Young Open Exhibit opening is Saturday, October 10th and can be viewed with general admission through January 3rd, 2021. I hope you will take the opportunity to experience this unique exhibit of Bay Area Artists. Most of the artwork in the exhibit is available for purchase, including my piece, and will be live for purchase on the day of the opening. You may preview all of the works online, in advance of the opening and read more about the exhibit.

Here is my statement when asked “What inspired this piece?”:

“Isolation in a studio allows for an ample flow of creative thought. That is, until the ineludible appearance of the studio fly; darting about and commanding attention every moment it landed at rest and seemingly to study me. It was persistent, consistent, and impossible to ignore. During those moments of rest I studied the way the light glistened from the brilliant iridescence of it’s thorax. Thus, I found the largest canvas I had in my possession and rendered the likeness of this ordinary turned extraordinary creature in the glorified and larger than life state depicted in this series.”
